I'm closing the newsletter (but here's where you can find me 👀)
Had high, high hopes but here's the reality.
Friends,
Firstly, thank you being a subscriber to SEO Friday. Your attention is precious and I appreciate you wanting to hear from me. Despite it being my largest subscription base, I’ve only managed to write a disappointing 8 posts about SEO.
The truth is, while I am an SEO expert and work in it daily, I just don’t find it all that interesting.
There, I said it.
I much prefer writing about the challenges that come with being a self-employed business owner, freelancer, working mother, mentor, and so on (hence the 69 posts I’ve written here on my other newsletter).
Ironically, SEO has become far more interesting of late. It’s spreading into social media channels, which are beginning to play and perform like search engines. It’s being hugely effective by AI overviews and LLMs. And in honesty, us seasoned SEOers are having to test new tactics and not just rely on what we’ve always done to help brands rise to the top of search results pages.
In time, I believe it will truly level the playing field in terms of which brands and businesses can be “seen’ in search engine (and LLM) results. Right now, us marketers are in a race to the bottom to define the next decade of SEO tactics and playbooks that are going to work in this new era of search.
Which is all pretty exciting.
But while I’m learning I don’t really want to add to the noise. Which means I will be closing down the SEO Friday Substack by the end of this month (July 2025).

I’ve just started my new venture - Get Trendie is going to be a social media consultancy, and eventually, SaaS product(!) that helps brands, agencies and social media managers to navigate the new era of social media. Allowing them to uncover, and use, trends data from social media and optimise their social media content for what users are searching for on channels like Instagram and TikTok.
As part of this venture I’ll be writing a monthly State of Play on Social Media newsletter which you can subscribe to here. It's not going to be a round up of social media channel updates. Instead, I’ll be finding the 4-5 most interesting social media shifts from that month and giving you a layer of theory on top of them.

Of course I still post regularly on my bethbycontent Instagram, and will also be using gettrendieco to share specific social media updates and Q&As. Feel free to follow if either of those are your bag.
